Expectations
We expect students to be respectful and create excellent work.
Mr. Duffin’s Progressive Discipline Policy
We want to keep our classroom as a safe and respectful place for learning.
While that includes encouraging and praising students for their achievements and good behavior,
it may sometimes become necessary to use consequences to help students remember what
behaviors support a productive classroom environment.
For minor infractions (including: disruption, talking at inappropriate times, calling out, making noise, yelling,
mild disrespect, clowning, unsafely leaning back in a chair, falling off of chair, writing or passing notes, insulting
students, being dishonest to the teacher, continually coming to school unprepared)
Two Warnings
Negative Consequence: walking laps, being benched, writing behavior reflection sheet
If student leaves food or drink on desk
Food or Drinks (other than water in a sealed bottle) are not allowed on desks (except during BIC or with permission).
One Warning
After that, teacher will take the food or drink and keep it until a break or the end of the day.
It is the student’s responsibility to request the return of food or drink at the break or end of day.
EXCEPTION: If a student has hot chips/snacks at school, there is no warning.
Hot chips will be confiscated and will NOT be returned. This is a school-wide health policy.
For more serious infractions
(e.g. repeated series of minor infractions, cheating, defiance, rudeness to teacher,
harassment, bullying, physical harm, theft)
One Warning (no waring if harm is caused)
After that, there may be communication with parents and/or principal.
Distractions with objects (e.g. toys, money, especially if disruptive):
1) Warning 2) Teacher will remove the distraction.
Cell Phone ringing in class:
1st time: Teacher will keep phone until end of the day. It is the student’s responsibility to request their phone back.
2nd and further times: Parent or Guardian needs to pick up the phone.
Causes for Calling Parents/Guardians:
1. Repeatedly missing homework or bringing incomplete work. Repeatedly losing homework is of special concern.
Infraction Notices will be given for ongoing minor infractions and for major infractions.:
This may include:
Classroom disruption, (i.e., speaking out, out of seat).
Incomplete work
Excessive tardiness
Poor team work
Defiance
Harassing other students
Sexual harassment
Disrupting school activities
